# Create multiple choice activities

> Prepare prompts, alternatives, correct answers, feedback and self-assessment in Reception activities.

**For supervisors**

Create comprehension activities with questions and alternatives in different formats. Prepare the prompt, add answer options and indicate which are correct to guide **automatic marking**. You can also include feedback and self-assessment questions.

This format can support identifying a video’s main idea, understanding a sign language narrative or recognizing information in a communicative situation.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Reception** is the activity type; **Multiple Choice** is the selected format. Instructions use English control names. Options may vary by installation, and screenshots retain the language of the illustrated interface.

## Plan the activity

Start with what you want to observe in participants’ understanding. Choose materials suited to the audience and language being studied, and write questions that can be answered using those materials.

An example plan:

| Part | Teaching example |
| - | - |
| **Activity name** | Understanding a narrative in Libras (Brazilian Sign Language). |
| **Objective** | Recognize the characters and sequence of events. |
| **Material** | A short narrative video. |
| **Question** | Which event led the character to change their plans? |
| **Alternatives** | Answers related to the video, with the correct answers set by the Supervisor. |

This example supports planning; it is not mandatory platform content.

## Create the activity and prepare questions

**1. Start setup in the Space**

Enter the **Space** where the activity will take place and open **Assessment activities**. Select **Add activity**.

![Access to the Assessment activities tab inside a Space.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/BKT18E3E1kfHe4uN/images/supervisor-assessment/194432.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=BKT18E3E1kfHe4uN\&q=85\&s=cc114ed7e9e89ce812aace13428a475b)

Check the Space selected in the form and select **Continue**.

**2. Choose Reception and Multiple Choice**

In the selection window:

1. Open **Assessment Activities**.
2. Select **Reception**.

![Assessment Activities tab with Reception selected.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/Activity-Type---Assessment-1.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=76e0d4a6549ed6aa98001183fe6b4130)

3. Choose **Multiple Choice**.

![Reception expanded with Multiple Choice selected.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/Activity-Type---Assessment-2.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=566e04ad0a3efc9bcd1b94d222c1cb57)

4. Check the highlighted option and select **Continue**.

This choice determines the creation flow. **Freeform Activities** appear in another tab and are not the format covered here.

**3. Introduce the activity**

Under **Description**, complete:

| Field | How to prepare it |
| - | - |
| **Name of the activity** | Use an identifiable title, such as “Understanding a narrative in Libras”. |
| **Instructions** | Explain the objective, materials to consult and what participants should do. This field is optional in the example. |
| **Instruction video** | Use **Upload** or **Record** to present instructions in the appropriate sign language. |

![Activity description fields and sign language instruction video.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-14.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=3728497f91e853fdd9b0a26f961482cf)

A possible instruction is: **“Watch the material for each question and select the alternatives that answer the prompt.”** Adapt it if there are time, playback or navigation restrictions.

> **Check participation options**
>
> Review the options displayed before continuing:
>
> ![Activity participation options, including pause, video right-click control and status.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-15.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=2ce7a6513b55193b703bf9e1ca6c32e7)
>
> * **Pause activity:** the example allows one pause, stopping the timer and blocking actions while paused.
> * **Block right-click on videos:** controls access to player options through that click.
> * **Status:** indicates whether the activity is active or inactive.
>
> Check the controls available in your installation and adjust them to the task before continuing.

**4. Open the summary and add a question**

Select **Questions Summary**. Check the **Reception** and **Multiple Choice** labels.

![Questions Summary with Reception and Multiple Choice identified.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-16.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=cc036bc86492ea19e7032825d206ea5c)

The **Introduction video** is optional and appears **before the questions**. Use it to contextualize the whole activity. It differs from the instruction video and a specific question’s video.

![Optional introduction video upload and recording fields.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-17.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=0674ad455b4901ec0dd5a685d2cbb1a6)

Under **Activity questions**, select **Add Question**. Do not confuse this with the self-assessment question button in a separate section.

![Activity questions section with the Add Question button.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-18.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=ed4d569d286a96701b0e3f04839ab34a)

**5. Prepare the prompt and content**

Enter a clear question or instruction in **Question Title**. Then use the available blocks:

![Question title and controls for adding topic, text, video and image content.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-19.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=e0085f51a614cc9d377d4c7178ce0909)

| Block | Possible use |
| - | - |
| **Topic** | Organize part of the content with a heading. |
| **Text** | Provide context, information or written instructions. |
| **Video** | Present a sign language prompt or material for comprehension. |
| **Image** | Provide a visual reference needed for the answer. |

Combine formats according to the objective, keeping the relationship between the material and question clear.

For video, upload or record according to the available options. Check **Display video only once**: enable it only when that restriction is part of the task and explain it in the instructions.

**6. Add alternatives and set the correct answers**

Under **Answers**, register the alternatives. The example shows cards with **optional text**, **video content**, a **Correct Answer** checkbox and a percentage field.

![Multiple choice answer card with optional text, video, correct-answer checkbox and percentage.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-20.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=f2ce3b8672b058a6f6a103e69b656b02)

| Control | How to use it |
| - | - |
| **Answer text** | Write the alternative when using written content. |
| **Video Content** | Add the corresponding video using the available upload or recording options. |
| **Correct Answer** | Mark the alternatives that make up the answer key. |
| **Percentage of this answer** | Check the value assigned to the alternative when manual setup is available. |
| **Add new answer** | Include another alternative. |
| **Trash icon** | Remove an answer card you will not use. |

The form offers **Evenly distribute** and **Manual distribution** for answer scoring. With manual distribution, review the percentages shown for each alternative.

Examples show that more than one alternative can be marked correct. Review the whole answer key and explain whether participants should select one or more answers.

Avoid ambiguous options or unintended clues. For video answers, also check image quality and clarity of signing.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Mockup percentages are example entries. They do not demonstrate the full calculation rule for partially correct answers or incorrect selections. Check your installation’s behavior before explaining the rule to the class.

**7. Add feedback to the question**

Use **Add feedback** to prepare a response. The illustrated form offers media selection, recording and an **optional text** field.

![Question feedback area with media, recording and optional text controls.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-21.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=a68c19c4d3afb18a4674d228f3e66810)

Use feedback to explain the content and support learning, beyond simply reporting correctness. For example:

**“Look at the passage where the character explains why they needed to change their plans. Review that passage and compare it with the alternatives.”**

The example’s feedback block refers to the **question as a whole**. Do not treat it as individual feedback written after completion or assume it is specific to each alternative.

After reviewing the prompt, media, alternatives and answer key, select **Done** to return to the summary. Repeat to add further questions.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Video size limits may differ by field. Prompt and answer examples show **100 MB**, while instructions, introduction and self-assessment show **250 MB**. Always check the limit displayed in the field you are using.

## Distinguish alternatives, questions and scales

| Setting | What it refers to |
| - | - |
| **Alternative scoring** | Values configured for answers within a question. |
| **Question weight** | Each question’s contribution to the activity result. |
| **Scale** | The reference for presenting results as values or levels. |
| **Activity weight in the Space** | The activity’s contribution to the Space result, set in another context. |

These settings have different roles.

![Assessment settings illustrating the distinction between scale and question weighting.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-23.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=176e64db17a3c7080573372e5aa8ac19)

Changing an alternative’s percentage is different from setting a question’s weight or creating a scale.

![Example of question weight distribution.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-28.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=ba30bb9536042a828f9bc45948b91a2b)

## Configure assessment

From the summary, open **Evaluation Settings**. Check the fields available for the activity.

![Assessment configuration fields available for the activity.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-29.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=a4a848ab11250c48da9fa5a188a79b79)

### Scoring and attempts

| Field | What to check |
| - | - |
| **Scale** | How the result will be presented. |
| **Points** | The scoring option, when this field is available. |
| **Question weights** | Equal or manual distribution; weights must total **100%**. |
| **Grade to pass** | The minimum passing grade for the activity. |
| **Max grade** | The assessment’s maximum reference value. |
| **Attempts** | How many attempts are allowed. The example offers one to five or unlimited attempts. |

Mockup values are not universal recommendations. Set them according to your teaching proposal.

### Navigation and duration

| Field | What to check |
| - | - |
| **Order of questions** | Whether navigation allows moving between questions and whether presentation is ordered or randomized. |
| **Order of answers** | Whether alternatives appear in their registered order or randomly. |
| **Time for completion** | Attempt duration in the format indicated. |
| **When time expires** | What happens to the attempt when the limit is reached. |

The illustrated menu distinguishes **ordered** navigation, without freely choosing between questions, from **unordered** navigation, which allows that movement. There are also randomized presentation options. Read the selected option’s description.

![Question order, answer order and duration settings.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-30.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=3f6dba7413a7532171435a62365b5e5d)

When choosing what happens at expiry, check whether the attempt is submitted automatically, can be submitted without further answers, or must be submitted before the limit to count.

### Review and availability

| Field | What to check |
| - | - |
| **Review options** | When assessment information can be viewed: during the attempt, after submission or by manual release, depending on available options. |
| **Final summary** | Whether question titles and answered/unanswered statuses are shown. |
| **Start date** | When the activity becomes available, if configured. |
| **Close date** | Until when it can be completed, if configured. |

The date window differs from an attempt’s duration. The answered-question summary is also different from grade and answer-key release.

![Review, final summary and activity availability settings.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-31.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=b113ba892af6a1f2f3ae55ee69a7c4bf)

If **additional criteria** appear, check their purpose and relevance to the task.

![Additional assessment criteria configuration.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-32.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=fffd14384dccd50149d00b415bcac121)

They do not replace marking the correct answers in multiple choice questions.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Automatic marking and result release are different stages.** Marking uses the registered answer key; participant visibility follows the review options. With **manual release**, results must be released at the appropriate time.

>
> Understand performance ranges and sign language explanations of the levels.

> **[Assess and support participants](/en/visual-classroom/supervisor/evaluation)**

## Include self-assessment questions if desired

In **Questions Summary**, **Self-assessment questions** has its own **Add Question** button.

![Separate self-assessment question section and configuration.](https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt/images/image-33.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M4Lw-zsgT4eCAFIt\&q=85\&s=c56ecdefa110a0953e9fe2958ba5fdcd)

Choose the **self-assessment scale**, write the question and, when appropriate, add a video in the corresponding sign language. Finish editing with **Done**.

A possible question is: **“How do you assess your understanding of references to characters in the narrative?”**

These questions invite participants to reflect on their learning. They differ from questions with alternatives and an answer key used for automatic marking. Do not assume they contribute to the main grade in the same way.

## Review the summary and finish

Before finishing:

* Check the name, instructions and Space.
* Review the introduction video, if used.
* Check the activity question list and the separate self-assessment list.
* Play videos and check other materials.
* Review alternatives, correct-answer selections and configured percentages.
* Check question weights, attempts, order, duration, dates and review settings.
* Check that instructions explain playback and navigation restrictions.

**Finishing a question is different from finishing activity setup.** After returning to the summary and reviewing everything, select **Done** in activity setup and check the task’s status.
