# Create a V-Book

> Understand video books and organize topics, text, videos and other media for publication in VisuoLab.

<img src="https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/4clE-MsTd6Zl9dpR/images/vbook/opening.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=4clE-MsTd6Zl9dpR&q=85&s=a8a14f9169fc75c40ad97d1ffb5d0e00" alt="Illustration of a VisuoLab V-Book with topics, videos, text, images and people communicating visually." style={{width: "100%", height: "auto", margin: "0 0 24px"}} width="2020" height="778" data-path="images/vbook/opening.png" />

A **V-Book (video book)** is a digital resource organized into **topics and subtopics**, combining videos, including sign language videos, with text and other media. This structure presents a work, a subject or a learning pathway in sections that readers can consult.

In VisuoLab, you build the V-Book directly in the Resource Creator. Rather than uploading only a finished file, you arrange content in a sequence and bring it together in a single Portal resource.

## Understand the structure

| Element | Purpose |
| - | - |
| **Topic** | Organizes a main part of the book, such as a chapter or theme. |
| **Subtopic** | Divides a topic into smaller sections. |
| **Text** | Provides written explanations, guidance and content. |
| **Media (Upload or link)** | Adds videos and other materials to content blocks. |
| **Glossary — optional** | Collects videos of terms or words in sign language for reference. |

For example, a V-Book about a story might have an **Introduction** topic followed by **Chapter 1**, with **Story in video** and **Comments on the work** as subtopics. Each section can combine text, video and supporting materials.

You can create as many topics and subtopics as you need; there is no quantity limit. Organize the sections to make navigation and understanding easier.

<Note>
  **Plan the sequence before publishing.** The editor's notice states that, after publication, individual parts of the V-Book can be edited, but their overall order cannot be changed.
</Note>

## 1. Start a resource and choose V-Book

In **My Resources**, click **Create resource**. In the English screenshots, the card is labeled **Create new resource** and its button **Create resource**.

<Frame caption="Create new resource card with the Create resource button to start a material.">
  <img src="https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/_wHxG0ArUR0QlvbG/images/vbook/start.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=_wHxG0ArUR0QlvbG&q=85&s=866c07fd9b951af944b1e2e37fa28429" alt="Create new resource card with the Create resource button to start a material." width="320" data-path="images/vbook/start.png" />
</Frame>

Choose the **category** and, when available, the **subcategory** that describe your material. The example selects **Library Resource** and **Literature**.

</Frame>

On **How do you want to create?**, select **Create a V-Book**.

<Frame caption="Create a V-Book selected as the creation method.">
  <img src="https://mintcdn.com/levante-lab/_wHxG0ArUR0QlvbG/images/vbook/choose.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=_wHxG0ArUR0QlvbG&q=85&s=08c73aba5857495f780e6eef7be0d130" alt="Create a V-Book selected as the creation method." width="430" data-path="images/vbook/choose.png" />
</Frame>

<Tip>
  **Category and format are separate choices.** The category organizes the material in the collection; V-Book defines how its content is built and presented.
</Tip>

## 2. Enter the initial information

Before assembling the content, complete the agreements, description and authorship stages. Check the fields required by your installation.

  </Tab>
</Tabs>

Use **Add another language?** to add versions of the titles in the available languages, if desired. Red messages in the screenshots indicate required fields that have not yet been completed.

## 4. Add text and media

Fill the V-Book's sections with the corresponding content. You can combine written explanations with videos and supporting materials.

### Write the text

Click **Text** to add a written block. Enter the content in the editor and use its formatting options to organize paragraphs, emphasis and lists.

The **Add another language?** fields let you add versions of the text in other languages.

</Frame>

| To add | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Video** | Select Video and use the available option to record on the platform, upload a file or insert a link. |
| **Image or PDF** | Choose the corresponding type and provide the material in the fields shown. |
| **External link** | Select Link and enter the address. |
| **VisuoLab resource** | Select VisuoLab resource URL and enter the resource's address. |
| **YouTube video** | Select YouTube URL and enter the video's address. |
| **Interactive H5P content** | Use Interactive (H5P embed), when available in your installation. |

Videos can be recorded on the platform, uploaded as files or inserted by link, according to the options shown. After adding a video, check that it belongs in that section of the book and plays correctly.

<Tip>
  **Written language and sign language are separate information.** Translating a text does not automatically create a video version in another sign language. Check each piece of content and its intended language.
</Tip>

## 5. Add a glossary if needed

The **glossary is optional**. It can collect videos of sign language terms or words related to the book's content, providing a reference for readers.

If you include one, organize the terms and associate each with its corresponding video. Glossary videos can also be recorded on the platform. Check that each term and video match.

## 6. Check and publish

Go to the **preview** and explore the V-Book as a reader:

* Check the sequence of topics and subtopics.
* Review titles, text and versions in other languages.
* Play the videos and test images, PDFs and links.
* Check authorship, license and cover image.
* If you included a glossary, test its terms and videos.

After checking, choose **Publish**. To continue later, use **Save as draft**; to share the review with another registered user, use **Send for review**, according to the available options.

Find materials in preparation or submitted for review under **My Resources → Drafts**.
